| Day of Pentecost - Shavuot = June 12-13, 2016 on Jewish Calendar Shavuot (weeks) - Pentecost (50) In Biblical times Shavuot originally signified thanksgiving for the first harvest of wheat. However, by the time of Jesus, this ancient feast was connected by rabbinic calculation as the time of the giving of God's revelation on Sinai. It is of value to connect ourselves to the land by this feast as well as to celebrate the giving of the Law in our worship. However, there is a central meaning for Messianic Jews and Christians who have adopted this holiday as one of their own, for on this day, God sovereignly chose to give the Holy Spirit (Ruach ha Kodesh) to Yeshua's gathered followers. In Acts Chapter Two, we read the marvelous story of how they preached the Gospel supernaturally to Jewish people from many lands who spoke many languages. The followers of Yeshua were able to communicate in these languages, even though they never learned them, the wonderful news of salvation. A great harvest of people were gathered into the new community of faith on this day. How significant it is that God providentially gave His Spirit on this day, for only through the power of the Spirit can we actually harvest God's will. When I first planned my blog for this month, June, I thought of Father's Day, but it didn't seem to be what I was supposed to write about; and then I realized that according to the Jewish Calendar that we were in error by celebrating Pentecost Sunday on May 15. What happened? How could this miscalculation be? Anything to water down what God has in store for His followers.
As for me and my house, I will celebrate this marvelous feast on June 12 in 2016.
